Honey Bee Lease for Agriculture Tax Valuation

 

Texas landowners with a minimum of 5 acres and up to 20 acres (6 to 21 acres with 1 acre homestead) may qualify for the 1-d-1 Open Space Agriculture Tax Valuation, potentially saving thousands of dollars on property taxes annually.

Article VIII, Section 1-d-1, Texas Constitution, and Chapter 23, Subchapter D, Texas Property Tax Code, of the Texas Property Code provides for appraisal of open-space land. Under this provision Texas landowners may be entitled to property tax relief. Most commonly known as an “ag exemption” or “agricultural exemption”, the 1-d-1 appraisal is a tax appraisal based on the land’s agriculture use and not its market value.

Honey Bees without the hassle!

We lease our fully managed honey bee colonies to assist Texas landowners with maintaining or obtaining their 1-d-1 Open Space Agriculture Tax Valuation.

 

  • Provide support with the 1-d-1 Open Space Agriculture Tax Valuation application and documentation.

  • Colony installation and set-up.

  • Hive maintenance including:

    • Hive inspections

    • Supplemental Feeding

    • Integrated Pest Management

    • Colony health and forage monitoring

  • Replacement of failed or absconded colonies

  • All additional equipment required to maintain the health and growth of the colonies.

Honey Bees, like all livestock, require extensive care and proper management. According to Bee Informed Partnership between April 1, 2022 – April 1, 2023, US beekeepers lost an estimated 48.2% of their managed honey bee colonies. Parasites like the varroa mite are the biggest cause of colony loss, followed by colony collapse disorder, pesticides, diseases and weather events. (Spectrum News 1 / Jamil Donith).

We are natural beekeepers focused on building strong healthy colonies with integrated pest management practices. We believe in treatment free beekeeping but will do what is necessary to ensure the life and health of all our colonies.
